A Spinning Top

Description

Petro Starukh is one of the most famous authors of Ukrainian postmodern plastic art. In his sculptural associations, he often recreates the state of political reality or invents his myths to go beyond the usual perception of the world and to break down established norms and barriers.

Petro Starukh's "A Spinning Top" is a new work by the artist, reflecting on Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine. The sculpture is made from the attributes of war - ballistic missile parts. The first works of such kind looked like art therapy for the artist. Today, it is a visual diary of wartime. A spinning top, like a jew's harp, is an ancient Ukrainian archetype of a meditation ritual, so the main message of the work is that for fearless people, the threat is just a game.

The work is the property of The Center of Intellectual Art Mercury.

The Center of Intellectual Art Mercury is a contemporary art space that was opened in February 2024 in the center of Lviv. It exhibits works by Ukrainian artists from the early 20th century to the present day. The Center's mission is to open up the world of art as a form of worldview to people.

Місія Центру – розкрити людям світ мистецтва як форму світогляду.
