Roman Selsky is a central figure of high modernism in Ukraine and the founder of the modern Lviv school of painting. He worked in the fields of easel and graphic art. The author's artistic style reflects the entire evolution of European modernism, from impressionism to abstraction.
"House in Mykulychyn" was painted in the troubled 1950s. Despite the deliberately imposed realistic execution style, Roman Selsky does not lose his characteristic lyrical interpretation of nature. The artist admires the Ukrainian landscapes and is inspired by folk life, giving the usual rural scene a poetic sound. With the help of light and warm coloring, he conveys the Carpathians' beauty, giving a feeling of lightness and freedom.
