Meadow with a Stone

Description

Roman Selsky is a central figure of high modernism in Ukraine and the founder of the modern Lviv school of painting. He worked in the fields of easel and graphic art. The author's artistic style reflects the entire evolution of European modernism, from impressionism to abstraction.

Inspired by the post-impressionist artists, Roman Selskyi resorts to decorative stylization and generalization of composition. The artist admires the beauty of Ukrainian landscapes, experimenting with the effects of lighting and the plasticity of nature. An unusual color is dominant in the work. The artist masterfully combines incompatible, at first glance, colors — green, gray, bright purple. He creates a lyrical image of nature that borders reality and the artist's fantasy.
