Roman Selsky is a central figure of high modernism in Ukraine and the founder of the modern Lviv school of painting. He worked in the fields of easel and graphic art. The author's artistic style reflects the entire evolution of European modernism, from impressionism to abstraction.
Roman Selsky's painting method is most expressed through landscapes, where the goal is color and plastic harmony. He does not strive for large-scale panoramic views but focuses on details, looking for his images among fallen trees, branches, and uprooted stumps. The main thing in his work is color, inspired by folk life and colorful ornaments. The artist masterfully combines rich, bright colors to create a lyrical, emotional image of the Carpathians, with the help of which he reproduces his own psychological state and inner desire for freedom.
