Opanas Zalyvakha asked himself, "Who are we?" throughout his whole life.
The new CIAM project shows the dissident artist's view of who we are, revealing his life path and attempts to find this answer.
The exhibition "Opanas Zalyvakha. Who are we?" starts on August 24, on the Independence Day of Ukraine. This is the first retrospective on Zalyvakhas art in Lviv in a quarter century.
The exhibition project is divided into three significant sections: "Lost Identity," "Labyrinths of Resistance," and "Imperfection", and deployed in two halls of the CIMM.
The exposition includes over 80 paintings and wooden sculptures from the artist's family and CIAM collections. Two-thirds of the works are exhibited to the audience for the first time.
At the exhibition, visitors can learn about the artist's history through letters from private and state archives of Ukraine, particularly from the Central State Archive Museum of Literature and Art of Ukraine.
This exhibition is about Ukrainians, the freedom of the Shistdesiatnyky Movement (the Sixtiers), the human struggle despite any labyrinths, the unity despite imperfection, and the search for a common consolidation point to defeat the enemy.
Проєкт «Опанас Заливаха. Хто ми?» триватиме до 29 вересня.
